School leaders need to model real engaging authentic learning (REAL). Previously, our opening institute day always started in an auditorium with a guest speaker or in some fashion of administrator-centered presentation. We finally realized that if we wanted to move away from a teacher-centric school to a REAL environment, we (as school leaders) must model this risk-taking from Day 1 of a school year. Our session tells the story of what happens when a school stops being routine and starts being REAL. Come hear our unedited successes and failures to build and sustain a disruptive learning culture.
