Amanda Bolan

High Marq Environmental Charter School
Lead Teacher / Advisor
Wisconsin
Ms. Bolan grew up in Janesville, Wisconsin, and has learned to appreciate nature through family camping trips and being a YMCA camp counselor. She graduated from Ripon College with a Bachelor’s in Politics and Government and Education, while volunteering at TAGOS Leadership Academy in Janesville, discovering project-based learning and the goal of PBL charter schools. She student taught on the Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona, and completed her first year of teaching at Pinon High School. Having lived within the Navajo community and being an active community member in Pinon, she understands the importance of environmental education. The reservation has had a number of environmental problems from uranium and coal mining to lack of water to litter. She was happy to bring her knowledge and expertise back to Wisconsin, and enjoys bringing a historical perspective to the classroom, both indoors and outside. She has worked in the Montello School District now for seven years serving as Lead Teacher / Advisor at High Marq, as well as an instructional coach and mentor for the school district. She is also a recipient of the 2019 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellowship award and is currently earning her Master's degree through Edgewood College in Reading and Literacy to become a Reading Teacher / Specialist.
