James is currently the Principal at Grayslake North High School and brings over 25 years of experience in innovative teaching practices and disruptive leadership. He was recently named the Illinois Principal Association Lake County Principal of the Year and was selected as a finalist for the 2019 Illinois Golden Apple Excellence in Leadership award. James is a national presenter on topics of Disruptive Leadership, Student Voice and Engagement, Backwards Curriculum Design and Advanced Placement Programs. He is the co-founder of DisruptionEDU, an educational consulting group committed to rethinking education. James earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Marquette University and holds a Doctorate in Educational Administration from National Louis University. He is passionate about transforming education, focusing on practices that disrupt the status-quo to improve the learning environment for all students and staff.
